Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop and examine a preventive program effects with music therapy for maladjustment problems in middle school students.
Methods A equivalent pretest-posttest design was used. Study subjects were a conveniently selected of 66 middle students(35 experimental subjects, 31 control subjects). The preventive program with music therapy which was consisted of 10 session was applied for the experimental group for 5 days. The control group received no group session. The preventive program was carried out by one music therapist and 3 psychiatric nurses. For both groups the score of self esteem, depression, anger were measured before and after the experiment.
Results There was a significant increase in self esteem scores in experimental group over control group. There were no significant decrease in depression scores in experimental group and control group. There were no significant decrease in anger scores in experimental group and control group.
Conclusion This study showed that the preventive program with music therapy has a positive effect on self esteem. Therefore, it is advisable to use a preventive program for maladjustment problems in middle school students. |
