Abstract |
Purpose This study was designed to identify the relationship between adolescents’ personality, sensation seeking and adjustment to school, the major factors causing their maladjusted behavior.
Methods The subjects were 956 adolescents in high school. Data was collected, using questionnaire survey based on convenience sampling. The instruments used in this study are the Personality Scale developed by Kim and Kim(1999), the Sensation-Seeking Scale(SSS) developed by Zuckerman( 1978), the questionnaire developed by Lee(1996). The data thus collected was analyzed by the SPSS 10.0 program.
Results The relationship between personality and sensation seeking had positive correlation except sociality and BS in each sub-area. Adjustment to school was positively correlated to sociality, depressive trend, level of self-esteem, but negatively correlated to antisocial personality tendency in the sub-area of personality. Adjustment to school was positively correlated to TAS and ES, but negatively correlated to Dis in the sub-area of sensation seeking.
Conclusion The findings suggest that personality and sensation seeking were associated with adjustment to school, providing useful for developing an intervention program focused on adolescents subject to psycho-social problems. |
