Abstract |
Purpose This study was designed to construct a structural model for quality of life of the patient with chronic mental illness in community.
Methods The hypothetical model was developed based on the literature review. Data were collected by the questionnaires from 190 patients with chronic mental illness at a general hospital outpatient clinic and community health center in Seoul, Korea. Data analysis was done with SAS 6.12 for descriptive statistics and PC-LISREL 8.13 program for covariance structural analysis.
Results 1. The fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate, thus it was modified by excluding 3 path and including free parameters to it. The modified model with path showed a good fitness to the empirical data( x2 = 77.27. p<.001, GFI=0.92, AGFI=0.86.
NNFI = 0.99. NFI=0.99, RMSR = 0.10, RMSEA = 0.06). 2. The psychological distress and self esteem were found to have significant direct effects on the quality of life. The social support was found to have significant indirect effects on the quality of life. 3. The self efficacy and coping behavior were found to have significant direct effects on the social adaptation. The psychological distress and social support were found to have significant indirect effects on the social adaptation.
Conclusion From this results of this study, it is suggested to develop and apply comprehensive intervention program for improve quality of life of the patient with chronic mental illness in community. |
