A Study on the Projected Manpower of Psychiatric-Mental Health APN in Korea

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to suggest the projected manpower of psychiatric mental health APN in Korea.
Methods
Ratio methods and expert opinion were used for projecting the number of psychiatric-mental health APN.
Results
1) In 2001, There are 61.769 psychiatric-mental patients, 60,733 psychiatric-mental health beds, active 3,641 psychiatric-mental nurse. and 879 active psychiatric-mental health APN in Korea(2.116 registered psychiatric-mental health APN. 2) A psychiatric-mental health APN per 60 psychiatric-mental bed and 2 psychiatric-mental health APN per public health center were assumed as manpower standard. 3) The number of psychiatric-mental health APN required to meet the demand for caring of psychiatric mental patients in 2002, 2005 and 2020 was estimated at 1,502, 1,527 and 1,564〜2,157, respectively.
Conclusion
To project future increments and development in supply of qualified psychiatric-mental health APN, it is necessary to open the master program.
