Abstract
The present study measured level of depression and related factors concerning the aged over 65~years~old(N = 532) living at agriculture and fishing village in Koje city, Kyung-sang Namdo -within the servitude of 6 community health post- from July, 2000 to August, 2000. Examiner interviewed each aged, individually, and composed the questionnaires. The questionnaires include general identification informations(gender, age. education). number of lodging company and form, financial responsibility of domestic economy and the status, level of satisfaction on one's present standard of living, marital status, have someone to talk with, nurse to help, self-rating physical state, last 15 days and 3 months illness, smoking, drinking, and level of depression was measured by GDSSF-K, which consists 15-items. The depression prevalence of male aged (74.3%) was significantly lower than woman (84.4%). The results of multiple regression analysis suggest that age, level of satisfaction on one's present standard of living, and self-rating physical state are significantly related with male aged. That is, the more old, unsatisfied on one's present standard of living, and self-rating physical state is poor, the more depressed. The women aged depression level was related to education, level of satisfaction on one's present standard of living, self-rating physical state, and last 15 days illness. The women was more depressed when one's level of education is lower, more unsatisfied on present standard of living, rated one's physical state poorer, and was sick during last 15 days. The high depression prevalence of aged living at agriculture and fishing village suggests that a concrete and resonable solution is needed, and moreover, as the level depression is related with economical and physical problems, these factors must be in.
