| Abstract |
Purpose
This study was to examine the effects of a substance abuse prevention program on middle school students.
Methods
This research design was a quasi-experimental pretest and posttest control and experimental group methodological comparison study. The total subjects were 257 middle school students in G city. The experimental group received a program for eight sessions, but the control group did not receive treatment. Data was collected by self-reported structured questionnaires from Sep. 1st to Oct. 30th 2007, and analyzed with the Kolmogorov-Smimov test, χ2 test, t-test, and ANCOVA using the SPSSA/VIN 15.0 program.
Results
After the treatment, between the experimental and control groups, there was a significant difference in the level of smoking and drinking related know ledge. attitude, and smoking and drinking refuse efficacy.
Conclusion
Based on the above findings, it is recommended that this program should be used as a schooi based practice as an effective nursing intervention for adolescents. |
