Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop a web-based expert system for preventing and managing substance related disorders focusing particularty on alcoholism, nicotinism, and narcotidsm in adolescents.
Methods Our design process utilized principles of a user-centered design wrth 4 phases: needs assessment, analysis, design/development/ testing, and application release. 3,885 adolescents were surveyed and focus group interviews were conducted. Survey and analysis results guided the design of the web-based expert system.
Results The resulting web site is http://www.baejy.comyebang. VAth our expert system, young boys and girls can assess their degrees of alcoholism, niootinism, and narcotidsm. The system analyzes facts based on answers to automated questions, and suggests solutions accordingly. A history tracking mechanism enables monitoring and future analysis. Also, programs like education, exercise, relaxation, music therapy, and counseling were included.
Conclusion This system is interactive and accessible to anyone in the world. It serves as an intervention strategy for not only adolescents who have a substance related disorder but also those adolescents who do not. It is expected that this management system will contribute to adolescent health promotion and share information on adolescent substance-related disorders to researchers and professionals. |
