Abstract |
Purpose This study was designed to examine the effects of the Tai Chi exercise program on persons with schizophrenia.
Methods This quasi-experimental study used a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design.
The data was collected from June to October. 2006. The subjects consisted of 55 chronic schizophrenic inpatients. The experimental group participated in the Tai Chi exercise program twice a week for 12 weeks. Data was analyzed with the SPSS/WIN 11.5 program and included χ2 test and t4est.
Results The subjective seK-esteem showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The effects of the Tai Chi exercise program was confirmed by changes in interpersonal relationship. There were significant differences between the two groups in communication and understanding.
Conclusion The findings of this study support the positive effects of the Tai Chi exerdse program in persons with schizophrenia. |
