The Effects of Parenting Sense of Competence and Parent-Child Communication on Parent-Child Relational Satisfaction and Parental Role Satisfection

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to examine whether parenting sense of competence and parent-child communication had a positive impact on parent-child relational satisfaction and parental role satisfaction for parents with adolescents.
Methods
The subjects consisted of 232 parents with adolescents. Data was analyzed by the SPSS and AMOS programs.
Results
Parenting sense of competence showed a direct effect on parent-child relational satisfaction. Parenting sense of competence showed an indirect effect on parental role satisfaction. Parent-child communication showed a direct effect on parent-child relational satisfaction and parental role satisfaction. Parent-child relational satisfaction showed a direct effect on parental role satisfaction for parents with adolescents. Parenting sense of competence positively correlated to parent-child communication.
Conclusion
These results suggest that parent-child relational satisfaction and parental role satisfaction for parents with adolescents can be increased by emphasizing parenting sense of competence and parent-child communication. Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to design an intervention program that emphasizes increasing the parenting sense of competence and parent-child communication in order to increase parent-child relational satisfaction and parental role satisfaction.
