Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in self-esteem and the meaning of life among female freshmen after a 10 week self-esteem promotion program.
Methods This study was carried out between June and August, 2007. Subjects consisted of 61 freshmen from two colleges in S city; 32 for the experimental group and 29 for the control group. The experimental group participated in a 50 minute self-esteem promotion program for 10 sessions (10 week period). Self-esteem was measured by the Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. Purpose-in life test was used to measure the level of meaning of life. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program that included chi-square test and independent t-test.
Results This study showed that self-esteem and meaning of life were signifi cantly increased after the self-esteem promotion program.
Conclusion In conclusion, this self-esteem promotion program was effective on improving self-esteem and meaning of life among female freshmen. |
