Abstract |
Purpose This study was to examine the effects of a 4-week Yoga program on mentally ill inpatients' anxiety and depression.
Methods A non-equivalent and non-synchronized control group design was used. For this research, a total of 30 subjects was selected at a psychiatric hospital in Busan from May 21st, 2007 to July 22nd, 2007(experimental group=15, control group=15).
Results After the treatment, between the experimental and control groups, there was a significant difference in the level of anxiety(t=-4.585, p=.000) and depression(t=-6.098, p=.000).
Conclusion The result of this study shows that the 4-week Yoga program works well for reducing mentally ill patients' anxiety and depression. Therefore, it is recommended that this program should be used in clinical practice as an effective nursing intervention for mentally ill patients. |
