Abstract |
Purpose This study was to investigate the self-reported quality of life and identify its associated factors in the elderly with dementia compared to the elderly without dementia.
Methods Study participants were the elderly with dementia(123) and the elderly without dementia(100). Home visiting nurses administered the following instruments to all participants : geriatric quality of life-dementia(GQOL-D), geriatric depression screening scale(GDSS). and physical health assessment and mini-mental status examination-Korean version(MMSE- K). Data was analyzed by unpaired t-test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression.
Results Depression and physical health status accounted for 51.03% of the variation in quality of life in dementia. Quality of life in dementia was significantly lower than in the elderly without dementia.
Conclusion Depression and physical health status were the main factors affecting quality of life in dementia. |
