Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study was aimed to evaluate reliability and validity of the Anxiety about Aging Scale(Lasher & Faulkender, 1993).
Methods The subjects were 750 adults living in Busan and Kyoung Nam province, and data was collected from September to November 2006. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability test on SPSS 14.0 for Windows and the LISREL 8.71 Program.
Results By means of internal consistency of the 20 items, 3 items were deleted. Through exploratory factor analysis of 17 items, 4 factors were extracted. These factors were labeled as 'fear of losses', 'fear of old people*, 'physical appearance', and 'psychological concerns'. Through LISREL of the 17 items, all items were included and finally Cronbach's alpha of the 17 items was .833. The correlation coefficient of the trait-anxiety scale was .494.
Conclusion These findings suggest that the AAS(Anxiety about Aging Scale) is valid and reliable to assess a degree of aging anxiety. Studies on aging anxiety of different groups and subjects are needed for reverification. |
