Abstract |
Purpose This study was for verifying how a group counseling program for the military affected soldiers' mental health, self-esteem, and quality of life.
Methods The research design was a one group pretest-posttest design using quasi-experimental research. The subjects, 30 soldiers who entered a recruit training center for the military, were measured for changes in mental health, self-esteem, and quality of life, after they participated in the program for eight sessions. This program was aimed to reduce psychological problems of soldiers through the use of group counselling and help soldiers adjust to army life better.
Results This program showed a significant difference statistically in the mental health and self-esteem of soldiers, but the change for quality of life was not statistically different.
Conclusion This program had an effect on mental health and self-esteem of soldiers. Accordingly, psychiatric nurses will continue to proceed with the study so that they can help soldiers adapt to army life and promote heatlh. |
