Factors Influencing Sexual Attitude Change through Sex Education in Middle School Students

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing sexual attitude changes through sex education in middle school students.
Methods
The subjects were 134 students(62 boys and 72 girls) in 4 classes of the first grade in a coeducational middle school in Seoul. Sex education was implemented over 18 hours during 16 weeks by the school nurse.
Results
After sex education, there were significant positive elevations in sexual attitude in both boys and girls. Having a good relationship with parents was a significant factor in boys' and girts' sexual attitude change. In addition, the boys' relationships with juvenile delinquents was a significant factor in sexual attitude change. For the girls, their parents' openness and self-esteem were significant factors.
Conclusion
Based on these results, systematic sex education is needed to enhance correct sexual attitudes in youth. To elevate the effect on sex education, it should include contents to gain a better relationship with patents. Also, for a positive sexual attitude, encouraging boys not to make friends with juvenile delinquents, and enhancing self-esteem for the girls needs to be done.
