Abstract |
Purpose This study is purposed to identify if there are any differences in computer use between schizophrenic patients and healthy people and this research results will be useful baseline data to develop web-based education program for schizophrenic patients in order to facilitate medication and prevent recurrence. Subjects of 61 healthy people and 55 schizophrenic patients who were admitted in day hospitals were attended to this study from Feb. 14
to Apr. 4, 2005, in Busan. Data were analyzed by /-test, t-test, ANCOVA and Stepwise Multiple Regression in the SPSS/WIN 10.0.
Results No significant differences were found between the schizophrenic patients and healthy people with or without occupation in total scores of computer using skills and internet use. The factors related to the computer using skills were education level, duration of computer relating education and they explained 55% of the variances of the computer using skills in the schizophrenic patients, but, in healthy people, the only relative factor influencing the computer using skills was duration of computer relating education and they explained 42% of the variances of the computer using skills.
Conclusions Therefore, these findings give useful information for constructing web-based education program for schizophrenic patients and this study suggests that repeated studies considering sample size and homogeneity of samples are needed. |
