Abstract |
Purpose This study was conducted to identify discriminating variables and the discriminating power of change stage of smoking behavior by decisional balance and self-efficacy.
Methods This study was a cross-sectional survey. The data were collected from December, 2003 to January, 2004. A total of 127 female high school students who ever smoked were included. The Decisional Balance Scale by Pallonen et al.(1998) and Temptation/ Self-efficacy by Plummer et al.(2001) were used.
Results Pros and cons of smoking behavior did not show significant difference by the stages of change. And negative affect and positive social among self-efficacy showed significant difference by stages of change. As a discriminant analysis, it was found positive social among self-efficacy was the most influential variable in discriminating the stages of change.
Conclusion Those discriminating variable that identified in the study can provide the framework in developing programs that focuses on the cessation of smoking in female adolescents. |
