Abstract |
Purpose This study was undertaken to validate Resilience Scale originally developed by Jew, Green, and Kroger( 1999) among Korean adolescents.
Methods Under the methodological study design, data were collected using a questionnaire from the sample of 297 adolescents selected by convenient sampling. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Principal Component Analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's coefficient.
Results Six factors were loaded from 32 items, which was explained 50.63% of total variance. The name of 6 factors were *future orientation', 'altruism', 'optimism and hope*, 'risk confrontation', 'maturity', and ’self-control', respectively. The Cronbach's of the scale of 32 items was .897.
Conclusions Resilience Scale could be applied for Korean adolescents, in particular, to assess and screen the risk group from general adolescents and to measure the effect of the intervention for resilience. Further study should be done to revise Resilience scale that can cover more characteristics of resilience among Korean adolescents. |
