Abstract |
Purpose The study was to examine the effects of shift work on the nurses' sleep disorder and negative affectivity.
Methods Sleep disorder of nurses was measured 'korean sleep scale A' which developed by Oh, Song, & Kim(!998) and negative affectivity was measured 'self-reported questionnaire of negative affectivity' developed by Agho, price and Mueller which translated by Kim(1997). Data were collected from 141 nurses of E university hospital located in D metropolitan and analyzed through frequency, percentage, t-test, and ANOVA using SPSS 12.0.
Results The negative affectivity of nurses was significantly higher after shift work than before shift work.
The mean score of nurses' sleep disorder was 33.34(range 15~53). The nurses' sleep disorder showed significant difference by working unit. The sleep disorder of the nurses working at intensive care unit(lCU) was very higher than other units.
Conclusion These results suggested that intervention programs for decreasing negative affectivity and sleep disorder should be offered for the nurses with shift work in hospital. |
