Abstract |
Purpose The objects of this study is to examine the effects of a group art therapy on the attention problems, aggression, sociality, total behavior problems and self-esteem of children with ADHD.
Methods The participants were children who were ADHD attending P community mental health center and J elementary school, six children were assigned to the experimental group and 7 to the control group. We performed the 20 session art therapy.
Instruments used for this study were Children's Behavior Check List-Korean version, self-esteem inventory. The data were analyzed using Fisher exact test and Mann-Whitney U test.
Results The scores of attention problems(p<0.01), aggressive behavior(p<0.01), and total behavior problems(p<0.05) decreased significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group after the application. And, sociality(p<0.01) and self-esteem(p<0.001) increased significantly in the experimental group as compared to the control group after the application.
Conclusion This study provides evidence for the potential and beneficial effect of group art therapy in children with ADHD. |
