Abstract |
Purpose This study aimed to examine the effect of a school-based mental health program on stress, self-esteem, emotional-behavioral problem and social competence of middle school students.
Methods The total subjects were 289 (146 Exp. and 143 Cont.) of the schools in G city. The program was conducted as an elective course with 24-sessions, 45 minutes per session for every week. The program focused topics: self awareness, interpersonal relationship, problem solving, improving academic performance. The data were collected from March 3 to December 13, 2003, and analysed by x 2 -test, t-test Using SPSS-PC+.
Results 1) After this program, there were significant difference in stress, emotional-behavioral problem and social competence between the experimental group and the control group. But there was not significant difference in self-esteem between two groups.
Conclusion This program is effective intervention for stress, emotional-behavioral problem and social competence of middle school students. Therefore, we recommended that this program is applied students to early prevent mental health problem and lead to improvements mental health in school setting. |
