Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of dynamic imagery therapy (DIT) on Anger expression anger-in, anger-out and anger-control in women with mastectomy.
Methods DIT was given 12 sessions for 6 weeks (2 times /week). Data collection was from June, 24th to August, 12th, 2002. The participants were experimental group 15, control group 15.This study was designed using a quasi-experimental approach with non-equivalent Pre test-Post test Design. The instrument used in this study was the anger scale developed by Spielberg (1972) and modified by Chon (1996), the data were analyzed with x 2 -test t-test.
Results 1) ‘The level of Anger expression in mastectomy women with therapy will be significantly lower than that of the control group’ was supported (t=-l.878, P<.036). 2) 'The level of Anger-in in mastectomy women with therapy will be significantly lower than that of the control group’was supported (t=-2.798, P<.005). 3) 'The level of Anger-out in mastectomy women with therapy will be significantly lower than that of the control group’ was not supported. 4) ‘The level of Anger-control in mastectomy women with therapy will be significantly higher than that of the control group was not supported.
Conclusion The DIT is suggested as an effective nursing intervention to reduce Anger expression and anger-in level for patients with mastectomy but not effective to decrease Anger-out and to increase Anger-control. Therefore we suggest to lengthen duration of DIT to change patients frame of negative cognition into positive cognition. |
