Abstract |
Purpose This study was conducted to investigate the factors that affect the marital satisfaction in non-distressed couples and clinical couples.
Methods Non-distressed couples(n=69) from three well-being centers in Seoul and Gyeong-gi area and clinical couples(n=57) visited “M” couple clinic were participated in the study. Data were collected from June to October 2005 using modified versions of the inventories developed by Gottman on marital satisfaction, positive affect, conflict regulation, and communication aggravator(“Four Horsemen”).
Results Non distressed couples showed significantly higher scores on marital satisfaction, positive affect, and conflict regulation, but lower score on communication-aggravator compared to the clinical couples. The factors that significantly contribute to the marital satisfaction were positive affect and communication aggravator.
Conclusion Both in non-distressed couples and clinical couples, mental health education and nursing intervention programs for couple should empathize enhancing the positive affect and decreasing the communication aggravator in couples. |
