Abstract |
Purpose This present study was conducted to investigate the recognitions of adolescents, parents, and teachers for adolescents problem behaviors.
Methods The subjects were collected by convenient sampling comprised of 238 middle school girls, 99 parents, and 84 teachers. The instrument of the study was modified Korean Youth Self-Report (K-YSR) which measured intemalized(withdrawal, anxiety/depression and somatic symptoms) and externalized (aggressiveness and delinquency) problem behavior.
Results Sociodemographic characteristics influencing the recognitions of the problem behavior were the adolescents' relationships with parents or siblings, person to consult with adolescents' worries, parents' job, academic achievement and economic status, and, teachers* career and frequency of counseling with adolescents. In general, while parents* recognitions for adolescents 1 problem behaviors were significantly lower than the others* recognition, adolescents recognition for internalized problem behaviors were significantly higher than the other's recognition and teachers' recognitions for externalized problem behavior were significantly higher than the others' recognition.
Conclusion This study revealed the recognition patterns of adolescents, parents, and teachers toward problem behavior of adolescents and suggested that the intervention strategies to prevent or enhance the mental health problems of adolescents. |
