Psychosocial Maturity, Depression and Self-esteem in Undergraduate Students

Abstract
Purpose
This study aimed to investigate the extent of relationships between the psychosocial maturity, depression and self-esteem of undergraduate students.
Methods
Data were drawn from a convenient sample of students(N=409). For the survey tool, it was used that the Psycho-social Maturity Scale, Beck Depression Inventory(BDI-II) and Self Esteem Scale.
Results
Emotional security (psycho-social maturity sub scale) was differentiated by general characteristics : gender, living standard, mark of last term, smoking, current drinker and regular exercise. Social cognitive competence (psycho-social maturity sub scale) was differentiated by general characteristics : gender, grade, smoking and regular exercise. Social relationship (psycho-social maturity sub scale) was differentiated by general characteristics : gender, boy(girl) friends, living standard, smoking, current drinker and regular exercise. Positive thoughts (psycho-social maturity sub scale) was differentiated by general characteristics : gender, smoking and regular exercise. Depression was differentiated by living standard. Self-esteem was differentiated by schoolwork. Significant negative correlation was found between self esteem and depression. Significant positive correlation was found between self esteem and emotional security, social relationship and positive thoughts. Also, significant positive correlation was found between depression and social cognitive competence.
