Abstract |
Purpose This study was to identify the effect of a group Aqua Exercise Program on relieving the pain and promoting subjective well-being. The treatments were conducted for 18 weeks from May. 21 to Jan. 18, 2005.
Methods This study design was a nonequivalent control group with Quasi-experimental research. The subjects were the rural eldery women (total 30) with Oseoarthritis were divided into an experimental group (15), and the control group (15). And they had been lived in D health clinic area of N-gun. The tools of this study were the Aqua video tape of Aqua Exercise Program for the rural eldery women with Osteoarthritis. The of 54 sessions (60minute/session). In order to measure the pain and subjective well-being, Status Inventory developed by Bellamy(1989) and Subjective Well-being Status Inventory H.C.modified by Kim,S.A.(1997) were used. Analysis of this study was computerized by using SPSS/PC+ Windows(version 12.0), and the homogeneity of two groups was tested by Chi-square and t-test, and the comparison of pre and post-test score of the pain and Subjective Well-being were tested by paired t-test and t-test.
Results The score of pain of the rural eldery women with osteoarthritis was 16.27. And the degree of subjective well-being was 13.33. The first hypothesis, 'the degree of pain of the experimental group performed the Aqua Exercise Program will be reduced more than that of control group' was supported(t=-21.327, p<.001). The second hypothesis, 'the score of subjective well-being of the experimental group performed the Aqua Exercise Program will be increased more than that of control group* was supported(t=21.423, p<.001).
Conclusion The significance of this study through the above results shows that the Aqua Exercise Program is an effective nursing intervention for the rural eldery women with Osteoarthritis to relieve pain and increase subjective well-being. |
