Abstract |
Purpose This study was designed to examine the effects of meditation training program on self concept, abstinence self efficacy, and abstinence in alcoholic patients.
Methods There were 25 subjects in the experimental group and 25 subjects in the control group. The experimental group was treated with 12 sessions of meditation training each lasting 90 minutes twice a week for 6 weeks, the control group did not have the training.
Results The self concept significantly increased in esteem, mood stability, interpersonal ability, higher in the experimental group than in increased in the experimental group over
the experimental group over the control group. The scores for self and interpersonal trust in the self concept subscales were significantly the control group. Abstinence self efficacy score was significantly the control group. 3 months after discharge, abstinence rate was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group.
Conclusion As a result of this study, it seems likely that meditation training program has a positive effect on self concept, abstinence self efficacy, and maintenance of abstinence. Thus, this meditation training program can be an effective nursing intervention for the recovery of alcoholic patients. |
