Abstract |
Purpose To identify the relationship among personality type, symptoms of job stress and coping strategies.
Methods The data were collected from 140 nurses working E university hospital in D city using the instrument, MBTI, Symptoms of job stress, and Coping strategies. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chronbach'a, t-test, and ANOVA.
Results The subjects prefer to use 'Introversion' and 'Sensing' to perceive and respond. The job stress symptoms were not significantly different according to 4 preference of personality type.
Twenty three point six percent of subjects were suffering from job stress symptoms and 3.6% of subjects needed the stress intervention to prevent burn-out. They used more inactive withdrawal, mental disengagement, and emotional expression coping, less active behavioral coping. There were significant differences on a few coping strategies according to personality preference.
Conclusion The result of this study suggest the stress management intervention for nurses could be developed considering personality type and preference. And the intervention program focused more detailed information and behavioral relaxation technique. |
