Abstract |
Purpose This study was to investigate the relation among stress, social support, codependency, and health status of the families of alcoholic patients.
Methods The subjects of this study consisted of 209 persons who were the families of alcoholic patients in D city. The data were collected through self-reported questionnaires from July 1st to August 31th, 2003. The instruments for research study were general characteristics, Son(1998)*s scale in stress, Park(1985)'s scale in social support, Jo & Kim(2001)'s scale in codependency, and Nam(1966)’s scale in health status. Data were analyzed by SAS program with t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation.
Results Degree of stress showed significantly positive correlation with codependency and health status. Degree of stress showed significantly negative correlation with social support.
Conclusion The results of this study suggest that there is a need to develope programs to promote health status in the families of alcoholic patients considering stress, social support, and codependency. |
