Abstract |
Purpose The puqjose of this study was to explore and describe the experience of depression.
Methods The qualitative research method used was phenomenological approach. The participants were depressive patients. The data were collected through in-depth unstructured interviews with audiotape recording done by the investigator over a period of seven months. The participants were asked to describe about their depression experience. The data was analyzed according to the Colaizzi's method for phenomenological analysis.
Results The interview data was organised by themes into nine categories emerged from the analysis. Participants experienced varies difficulty related to depression. The categories were physical symptoms, lower self-esteem, unstable emotion, burden, dispair, loss, isolation, suicidal need and recovery.
Conclusion Nurse should be a providing the empathetic support and effective nursing intervention for depressive patients. And effective guidance program is required to improve mental health. This study can contribute to designing an appropriate depression prevention strategy in turn with the particular characteristics and problems of a client. This study will prove helpful understanding nursing student for educator and clinical nursing staff. |
