Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship amang personality type, self-esteem and mental health.
Methods The subjects for this study were 114 nursing students attended a junior college in Keochang. The instruments used for this study were MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Form G modified by Kim and Sim, Coopersmith's self-esteem test modified by Yoon & Yu and the mental health test modified by Lee. The collected data were analyzed t-test, one way-ANOVA, Pearson Correlation.
Results The findings of this study were as follows: The mean total score of self-esteem was 160.60(S.D=6.81). The mean total score of mental health was 47.03(S.D=24.08). This study found significant difference between personality type and self-esteem and between personality type and mental health. The higher their preference score of E type is, the higher self-esteem they get. There were significant differences between self-esteem and four groups with different functional types(ST, SF, NT, NF) of MBTI. There were significant differences between self-esteem and four groups with different temperate types(SJ, SP, NT, NF) of MBTI. The higher their preference score of I type is, the higher degrees of eight subfactors of mental health they get. There was significantly correlation between self-esteem and E type and between eight subfactors of mental health and I type.
Conclusion The results of this study suggest that there is a need of educational program considering personality type in nursing students. We need to develope various group counseling program to improve mental health and self-esteem according to personality type. |
