Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop the tool to measure the state of crisis for early adolescent.
Methods A literature review, concept analysis, subjects interview, item analysis, and review by a team of experts were conducted. Throughout above procedures, the questions in this tool could be winnowed down to 19 questions of crisis behavior and 5 questions regarding consciousness of crisis. The validity and reliability of the questions were tested by surveying 135 junior high school students at 2 schools.
Results Factor Analysis revealed four factors associated with crisis behaviors; namely emotional, daily life, behavioral, and cognitive responses to crises.
The total explained variance from these factors was 57.8%, and consciousness of crisis as one factor had a total explained variance of 58.8%. The reliability test of this study showed Chronbach*s a of total items to be 0.901, Chronbach’s a of factor-by-factor ranged from 0.660 to 0.839 for crisis behavior. The Chronbach's a for the consciousness of crisis resulted in 0.819.
Conclusion The tool developed in this study would be useful in measuring the state of crisis for early adolescent objectively and also quickly. |
