Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of imago psychotherapy on Self actualization, Depression and Self-esteem of Nursing Students. The period of this research was from May 10, 1999 to June 20, 1999. The subjects were 10 sophomore nursing students in T college located in Taegu City. The research design was a one-group pretest -posttest design and the theoretical framework was psychodynamic theory. Collected data were analyzed by paired t-test with SPSS program. The results of this research were as follows • 1. The self-actualization mean score of the subjects was characterized by normal value within normal range of scale. The subjects showed high scores in the areas of Time Competent, Inner Directed, Existentiality, Spontaneity. Self Acceptance and Nature of Man. Mean score of depression was low with 10.80 compared with degree of depression( 13.01) in normal group. 2. There was significant difference in self actualization in Capacity for Intimate Contact scale. 3. There was no significant difference of depression scores between before and after treatment. 4. There was no significant difference of self-esteem scores between before and after treatment. I would like to make following suggestions with the results of this study. * The number of the session of imago psychotherapy should be at least 20, and the effect of the therapy can be properly verified. * Imago psychotherapy should be applied to nursing students before and after clinical practice, and the effect of the therapy can be compared. * We need to develop various imago psychotherapy program to improve mental health and self actualization of nursing students.
