Mental Health Need of Mentally Ills and their Families

Abstract
This study attempts to identify mental health need of mentally ills and their families. The sample consists of 50 psychiatric -discharged patients, 52 pts’family. The data was gathered by semistructured interview. The results revealed that education on symptom and medication(35.1%) was the most wanted mental health needs of patients. The maintenance of interpersonal relationship(29.1%), councelling(21. 6%), environmental control(9.5%), financial sup port (4.1%) were followed. Needs of pts’ family revealed education on disease was the)mediate need tooU 1.9%). Needs on nursing care of pts’ behavior (16.1%), family support & meeting( 14.5%), financial support (12.9%) were followed. The coping tehavior on pt's symptom of families was mainly positive—active behavioral pat tern (64%). Nega ti ve - passi ve coping behavior (28%) and negative_reject】ve coping behavior(8%) were fol lowed. These findings suggest that symptom & me di cation management program be essential and that negative-passive and negative—rejective coping behavior be turned into positive-active coping behavior.
