Effect of MBTI Growth Program on the State Anxiety of Nursing Students before Initial Clinical Experience

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the MBTI Growth Program(MBTI GP) on the State - Anxiety of nursing students before initial clinical experience and non-equivalent control group post-test only design, quasi -experimental study was attempted to establish the purpose. The MBTI (Meyers Briggs Type Indicator) was developed by Meyers & Briggs and the State -Anxiety Inventory was developed by Spielberger MBTI GP was developed based on Workshop Leader’s Guide and was applied by researcher. Subjects in experimental group were assigned 4hours the MBTI GP before initial clinical experience and then was measured the State-Anxiety after lweek. Subjects in control group was measured the State — Anxiety after lweek. Subjects in control group was measured the State — Anxiety before initial clinical experience without participating in the MBTI GP. Data were analyzed by r2 —test, t—test using SPSS pc. The result are summarized as follows : 1. There were no significant differences in the characteristics of the subjects between the experimental and control group. 2. The main hypothesis that the experimental group who are participated on the MBTI GP will show lower degree of the State — Anxiety scores than the control group who ar’nt participated on the MBTI GP was supported(t=2.94, p<.005). 3. The sub-hypothesis that according to the preference chatacteristics of personality there were significant differences on the State—Anxiety scores between the experimental and control group was supported partially. In I(p<.005), S(p<.005), T (p<.005), J(p<,05), P(p<.05) types among 8 preference characteristics of subject's person ality, there were significant differences between the experimental and control group was rejected in E, N, F types. Results of this study showed that MBTI GP is effective in decreasing State — Anxiety of nursing students before initial clinical experience.
