Abstract |
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between health locus of control and eating disorder.
Methods It was done by using a constructive self-report questionnaire, a total of 282 college women(80.0%) were measured. The study site was one university in Busan, Korea between Sept., 1st and 30th, 2003. The study subjects were college women of I university. The instrument was a constructive questionnaire that consisted of 43 items; 8 general characteristic and weight control related questions, 24 eating disorders questions and 11 Health locus of control questions. Data were analysed by SPSS WIN 10.0 using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient.
Results Depending upon BMI, the obese subject was not, underweight subjects were 62.1%and normal subjects were 37.9%. More than 40% of the subjects perceived their weight as over weight. While 62.1% of the women were underweight as defined by BMI.
The total mean score was lower than average. No significant difference was found on the BMI according to health locus of control. No significant difference was found on an eating disorders according to health locus of control.
Conclusion These results indicate that college women need more education and counseling on dietary habits. Also, the systemic efforts reestablish the social standard of the beauty should be taken. |
